Part 8---Group Assignment

After done all the blog for individual assignment...now is the time for us to form a group and start for our second assignment---thematic project....

The objective of this project is to create a work that carries a theme/topic set by each individual group. the topic for this assignment is the CREATIVITY of MMU....

so to be started to search our main topic the 1st step is draw a mind map...a logical mind map is very important so that we can set out what was so unique n creative in MMU....


after finish the logical mind map, the lecturer told us we need to find out the titile that we think is the most creative and futher the next step for focus mind map....

we choose digits is because digits and numbers are always close to us no matter time, date, our id, telephone number and also our age...for the slogan we choose

CREATIVITY IN MULTIMEDIA UNIVERSITY

Creativity in Multimedia University is seen in a variety of sections around the campus. It is seen in its location Cyberjaya. Why Cyberjaya? Because Cyberjaya is the central of Multimedia and Information technology in Malaysia hence it is creative for MMU to be situated in Cyberjaya. It is also seen amongst the students (the way they think, dress, talk, culture, race, religion), lecturers (in the way they teach and pass knowledge to students. All lecturers have their own creative way of delivering knowledge to students), the different faculties. Each faculty is creative in its own way, for example each faculty has its own website, building, colors, lecturers, rooms hence making multimedia University a creative school.

Being a creative university, MMU has simplified the way of life around the campus through providing services to students ranging from free internet on campus, food courts on every hostel and faculty block, banking services, parking, security and so on, which has made life easy for the students to live in harmony and at peace in the university hence the great performance making MMU one of the best universities in Malaysia.

DIGITS IN MMU

A number/digit is a mathematical object used in counting and measuring. We look at numbers like 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. All these numbers have a meaning attached to them; for example 1 has a symbolic meaning of new beginnings. Looking at new beginnings, Multimedia University is Malaysia’s first private university that was established in 1994 and has two (2) campuses, one in Cyberjaya and another in Melaka. Three in its nature symbolizes intuition, however in Multimedia University 3 is symbolic in its holidays and number of semesters the university has.

Hence In addition to their use in counting and measuring, digits are often used for labels (telephone numbers which are a form of communication between students, lecturers and fellow peers), for ordering things like meals and online purchase of goods which is highly done by students. (Serial numbers), and for codes (ISBNs).

In MMU digits are used in different forms, from I.Ds which are used by the students and staff to identify themselves when on campus, grades help to determine the performance of the students and later also determine whether they can graduate, tuition fees are used to sustain the students in the school, number of students, classroom numbers, online access of information, number of stairs each block has I mean there is a variety of numbers. Hence we will talk in detail about these numbers.

TIME IN MMU

Time is a component of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects. Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science.

Time is a way of life to everyone living and particularly in MMU, time is very important in the different aspects of studying. We are not talking just about hours and minutes, time is seen in so many different aspects of life like how long one lives or takes to complete a course.

Multimedia University is one of the most organized universities when it comes to when school starts and when it ends. Hence the school administration comes up with a calendar that helps to guide the students on how many weeks will be spent on a particular semester, how many holiday of holiday will be in that semester, when exams are due and when holiday is due, hence in its creativeness, MMU helps to keep time in that they do so as to make sure everything planned for a particular semester is carried out well. Hence making time an essence of life in the running of the university. Creativity is not only seen in how good one is at art, drawing, but also how to direct a school in a direction that leads to success in all areas of life hence organization.

In MMU time is seen in aspects like going to class. Every student has a time table that identifies which time a student is to go to class. This is a practice that will help one in the future especially when it comes to time for work, this works well and helps the student be accustomed to keeping time so that they can attend lectures. Therefore, the time in the timetable are different with other universities, for example, usually 1 lecture session is 1 hour, but in MMU, each lecture hour only have 55 minutes, which means if the class start at 8.00, it will finish at 8.55 but not 9.00. Besides, MMU did not use the sign of ‘am’ and ‘pm’ for time in the timetable, if is 5.00pm, it will show 17.00 in the timetable but not 5.00pm.

While in class, students always have presentations, and to every presentation, each student is allocated an amount of time for which he or she should present, whether is between 10-15 minutes, or 15-30 minutes, usually the maximum length for a presentation is 30 minutes, and 10 minutes is for the Q&A session. This is the creative way of training students to prepare for what is ahead of them when it comes to working in companies that will need them to do this. Besides, it can train those presenters to manage the time properly, so that they can present their part in the right time. Hence time is very important in the life of an MMU student and lecturers too.

In MMU, Siti Hasmah library is a place where students go to do revision especially when exams are around the corner. However, the library has rules and also has a particular time of when it opens and when it closes. Hence it opens at a particular time which is 9:00a.m and close late at 12:00a.m. When the final exam is around the corner, so called ‘Study Week’, the library will open until 2.00am for student to study. To all this, there is an allocation of time hence time is a way of life in Multimedia university.

To each course in MMU there is duration of study. All the courses in MMU are timed for either 3, 4 or 5 years depending on if one has done foundation and the courses that the students had choosen. For engineers, it needs 4 years to complete the degree, and for accounters as well. Other course like finance, marketing, management, designs or IT, its need 3 years to complete the degrees. Hence time spent in MMU is important and to all this we find that we use numbers to allocate the duration of these courses hence the use of digits in MMU.

Time is important when the students have exams, it related to the time of a student study in a day. Also, the duration for a subject when examination. The rules of the examination in MMU is students are not allowed to go out from the exam hall before 30minutes once the exam had started. Time management for doing a exam paper is very important to all students, they have to manage the time well so that they can finish the exam on time, or earlier. The maximum length for a examination in MMU is 3 hours, and the time for the examination is usually on afternoon or morning. It would not be on night, maybe that is inconvenient for the invigilator to work somehow now the exam unit has the new rules, it is for those students who are taking the supplementary exam, the time might be at night.

As creative students, time is important to help us in our daily routine, doing work on time, assignments, and going to class on time. It is between whether that the time is controlling us or we are controlling the time. Hence a proper way to live, is to keep time so that things run smoothly daily in life.

Part 5 -----Juxtaposition

As we learn about juxtaposition last week in class,this is what i found out about the definition of this week.

Juxtaposition is defined as :

1. the act of positioning close together (or side by side); "it is the result of the juxtaposition of contrasting colors.
2. a side-by-side position

From my knowing, juxtaposition is like when there is two words and we combined them and we could build another phrase of it and create a new meaning to both of the words.Lets look what have i found from the internet about juxtaposition:

Part 4 ------Associated Mind Mapping

Today is wednesday of week 3..time passed very fast n now almost the mid term of our 2nd semester n we almost had done half of our creative studies...

so this week the lecturer teach us about the Associated Mind Mapping.....so wat's the meaning by associated mind mapping n wat's the differences between logical mind mapping n associated mind mapping....

Mind mapping is a technique of generating ideas, organizing information, and identifying relationships among ideas, concepts, attributes and information. A mindmap is a picture, a mental picture you can look at.

It is believed to more naturally mimic how the mind functions to create and process information than making lists in linear fashion, which permits ready connections only to the previous and subsequent ideas.

Mind mapping offers a way for journalists to create and organize ideas and information.

Most mind maps begin with a central idea, question, concept, quote, title. Then one identifies subsidiary ideas at nodes and links concepts with directional arrows. Some specialists recommend using pictures and colored pens or pencils, because they argue, one remembers images and color better than black-and-white text.

A logical mind map is also defined as a stereotype mind map as everything that we draft or draw into the mind map is directly connected to the subject we are talking on.

As for associated mind map,it seems that two different thing that links to a subject could have no connections at all.

After class,it brings me back to my foundation times when we took the Design Fundamental course which requires us to do mind map all the time.

That time,logical mind map is strongly stressed as we have to produce something out of a subject and that means,when the viewers see ours artwork,they have to understand what we are trying to bring out from the subject that we have choosen.

But as for me,having know about associated mind map,i guess this type of mind map can make people more creative in terms of their thinking and ideation.

A mind map can make the learning becomes more effective in a way that it make sure that the person will never run out from their path and will hardly make mistake in achiveing what they are looking for.i have found a informative sites about the mind map.

For the class activity the lecturer show us some related work of mortal n pestle then ask us to pick 3 of the words n draw on the drawing paper..wat i had choose is sun, power n exercise....

sun---mortal n pestle can be umbrella...

power---mortal n pestle can be the crown n the king stick...

while exercise would be related to olympic where the fire tomb where it's can use mortal n pestle to do...

haha...that all my nonscence idea....but that wat our lecturer wan to be a creative student..hope i can get much more crazy idea n edit in this page.....

Part 3----Mind Mapping


Using left brain is a Logic they are Lists, Linearity, Woros, Numbers, Sequence, and Analysis.

Using right brain is a Rythem there are Color, Imagination, Day Dream, Dimension, SpacialAwarness and Music.

Mind mapping is a diagram or pictures to allow us to explore the idea. And mind mapping have two types. Logic map and Association map

.

Logic map is the map that need logic during you create or come out the idea. So you can’t simple add in the idea which is not suitable or not logic.

Association map is the map that you can add in the idea if you able to come out form your mind. Is it not right or wrong. Even the idea has not relationship with the topic.

And lecturers also show us some example during the class. It is quite easy to understand when the lecturer provide us some example during class.

Part 2-----Novelty, Creativity, Innovation & Invention

Today,I learn the new thing which is call Novelty, creativity,innovation and invention.

Actually the meaning of this few word is quite smiler.But after you understand it you can find out some different in that.

Novelty-Using the new idea or concept to create something new and totally different with the original.

Creativity-Create with the imagination and the new idea might be link with other think

Innovation-Mean the new way of think,revolution of thinking.
For example like last time A can mix with B,but now A can mix with B and C.

Invention-Mean the create of new way to produce something or new way to develop some idea which is already exist.

Beside all the knowledge the lecturer also show us a video clips that talk about invention, he also ask us search on the inventor of micro cips n this is what i get from internet...

Part 1---Defining Creativity

Finally came to the class i waiting n waiting...today Mr Halim going to explain deeply a bout creativity...firstly he define the meaning of creativity....as the extra information i search it in web and get the definition as below....

Creativity is a mental and social process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the creative mind between existing ideas or concepts. An alternative conception of creativness is that it is simply the act of making something new.

From a scientific point of view, the products of creative thought (sometimes referred to as divergent thought) are usually considered to have both originality and appropriateness.

Although intuitively a simple phenomenon, it is in fact quite complex. It has been studied from the perspectives of behavioural psychology, social psychology, psychometrics, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, philosophy, history, economics, design research, business, and management, among others. The studies have covered everyday creativity, exceptional creativity and even artificial creativity. Unlike many phenomena in science, there is no single, authoritative perspective or definition of creativity. And unlike many phenomena in psychology, there is no standardized measurement technique.
Creativity has been attributed variously to divine intervention, cognitive processes, the social environment, personality traits, and chance ("accident", "serendipity"). It has been associated with genius, mental illness and humour. Some say it is a trait we are born with; others say it can be taught with the application of simple techniques. Creativity has also been viewed as a beneficence of a muse or Muses.

Although popularly associated with art and literature, it is also an essential part of innovation and invention and is important in professions such as business, economics, architecture, industrial design, science and engineering.

Despite, or perhaps because of, the ambiguity and multi-dimensional nature of creativity, entire industries have been spawned from the pursuit of creative ideas and the development of creativity techniques.

Creativity has been associated with right or forehead brain activity or even specifically with lateral thinking.

Some students of creativity have emphasized an element of chance in the creative process. Linus Pauling, asked at a public lecture how one creates scientific theories, replied that one must endeavor to come up with many ideas — then discard the useless ones.

Another adequate definition of creativity is that it is an "assumptions-breaking process." Creative ideas are often generated when one discards preconceived assumptions and attempts a new approach or method that might seem to others unthinkable.

Above is the definition that i surf after the creativity class.After i read this article i get more confirm that creative is very important for human.
Without the creativity mindset people will get boring soon with everything they have.

For example if the business man want to attract people to consume his product ,maybe he can just do some modify in the outlook of the product, If the consumer like the product that the sale rate of the product will increase with easy.

Lastly, can define that creativity is not just important in the art world but also every aspect in our life.

This session the lecturergive us some exercise that is how we appearance our partner or friends to the object.

We need to interview our partner and then ask bout his/her background and then draw a things that represent him/her .
My partner is Heidy , she describe me is a watermelon girl :( and I describe her is a small cute tomato) -.-v

Well, I also dunno why she describe me so, but she had told me it's because I look like watermelon green outside n red inside ~~ haha =.=v but as I know from what she said because even i'm cool outside but very sensitives, humour, fun, creativity, out going, optimistic, friendly, happy go lucky person, and also very talkative.

1st day of class


Time past so fast and this is my 3rd sem i back to campus since i sick and take leave for 2 semester-y sick n wat sickness? ask me in personally n i'll answer ur doubt, haha, and of coz the subject that I take for this sem sure is interesting to me.

First time to study the creative studies and I felt quite excited to study it . Erm , maybe is the influence of my friend and my Adviser ,that's why I think that is a MUST to have creative minds to improve myself in this major.

Ok , Let's talk bout my lecture for this sem . My lecture Mr. Abdul Halim and Mr.Ahmad Radzi, they are very funny, although Mr. Radzi didn't talk much in the class but i think he's a kind lecturer due to my sence...haha. Talk about Mr Halim, he's the funniest lecture that i meet in MMU, he had alot espression n body movement when he teach n lecture...quite interesting than other classes where the lecturer just stand still n give the talk.....haha..hope others lecturer won't hate me to say all of this....
when i get home i start to search what the meaning of creative studies. As Mr. Halim say he'll start teaching on friday class so, i think is a better way for me to find some info 1st so that i can learn more n fast....
I wonder what do we exactly learn in creative studies??? mind mapping, brainstorming, analogy, metaphor, similies n much much more....can't wait till friday class....wuhoooo........
